“50 Beats Per Minute Isn’t Really That Low.”
“50 beats per minute isn’t really that low.” -OB reviewing the fetal heartrate tracing strip.
Fetal heart was decelerating for significant time after a contraction had passed. Instead of removing the pitocin and allowing heart to recover, OB turned the pitocin up and walked out, while the heart rate continued to decrease for longer periods of time of little to no recovery.

Baby made it through perfectly fine.

I just learned that a patient can actually rescind her consent, so if she sees the Pitocin (that she consented to) being harmful, she can insist that they turn it off. Which is very cool, but will make them very mad.
And you can say very clearly that you are rescinding your consent and request a patient advocate or the nurse manager to enforce your decision. (They’ll probably tell you no one’s available but legally someone has to be so they’re just trying to bulldoze you.) This new information almost makes me want to do a hospital birth just so I could have an answer for every stupid thing they say and make them totally nuts!
But don’t worry, I won’t.

I can see where the OB might want to prevent the mom from panicking, but is it really superior for her to think the doctor is a blatant liar and/or stupid? I’d panic more!
