I was told at our first checkup that my baby was "in the obese category" (she'd gained 2lb since birth!) and I should cut back on her feedings. I was a 4th time mom, so I just beandipped her, smiled, nodded, and moved on. The same nurse practitioner asked if Fiona had her own bed, and when I replied that she slept with me said "Oh, I can't have THAT!". Again, smile, nod, move on. Just wasn't worth the fight. But a first time mom? What would she have done to the breastfeeding relationship of a first time mom?!

Then I guess they'd never know what to do with my 9 month old, who was exclusively nursed until 6 months (and still is). He's over 21 pounds! LOL

This reminds me of when he was born - they told me up front, "If their sugars are low, we give them a bottle. We don't even ask," or something to that effect. Nice.

I exclusively nursed both my boys to 9 months, and then around 10 months they just started eating right off my plate...no baby cereals, mushed food or anything.

My youngest was born at 10lbs4oz.... he did great on just breastmilk for 9 months. Even now at 15 months he still gets a good portion of his nutrition from breastmilk. No cows milk for him yet!

Well, I guess my 4 1/2 month old who weighs 16 pounds should just stop eating altogether! What a stupid comment. I breastfed my first until 11 months (when she got 8 teeth) and I plan to breastfeed the new one as long as I can. By the way, my 2 year old almost never gets sick and has never had an ear infection!

My 10.5 pounder was exclusively breastfeed. My SIL exclusively breastfed her 11.5 pounder and her twins--weighing in at at a combined total of more than 15 pounds.

I guess by that logic we starved all 4 of them.

My pediatrician said the same thing when my son was born....at 9 lb 14 oz.

Funny we EBF until he was 1 year, then continued to BF until he was 27 months. We never had to supplement.

Same for my 10 lb. 3 oz. baby. She did just fine. And I have teeny tiny A-cup boobies.

I just always waited until my breastfeeding baby started grabbing and eating food from me. It always seemed to be between about 6-9 months. No food allergies here, but we have no family history, either.

I had heard so many different conflicting views about starting solids and wasn't sure what to do. I recommend this website for all your breastfeeding info http://kellymom.com/ What really convinced me was that the earlier you introduce solids the more likely your child will have food allergies. It is now recommended that families with a history of food allergies delay solids till 1 year. Both my husband and I have food allergies in our families so that is my goal for now.
