“Let’s…See Where This Baby’s Head Is.”
“Let’s do an exam and see where this baby’s head is.” L&D nurse to a mother in active labor carrying a known breech baby.
I agree, even with a “known breech” baby it still might have turned. Thats just responsible to check again just in case where someone has a “condition” that would legitimately require a c-section

..or one that would let everyone off the hook! Babies can turn to vertex anytime in labor!

My concern would be that it *sounds* like the nurse is not aware that the baby was known to be breech. Which might not be a big deal, but I’d be worried about receiving an exam or any treatment from someone who is not fully aware of my condition. It’s very simple to just read the chart — or ask me!
Maybe I’m wrong and the nurse wanted to check and see if the baby had turned, but for me it would at least be cause to stop her and make sure she wasn’t in the wrong room or something.

I am a little late replying to this, but I wanted to add something. My midwife said something similiar when I went in 10 days before my due date with my water leaking. My son had been breech until the night before when I felt him move. She is a wonderful midwife and meant nothing by it other then lets make sure he is head down so we can do what is needed if he isn’t. I went on to have a wonderful intervention free hospital birth that same day.

Okay…this one I don’t really see as so shocking or offensive. I think it is just habit to be expecting to “find out where the head is” when doing a cervical check.
