“…I’m Your Nurse. I’m Going To Tell You What To Do…”

“You can tell your family and your doula to be quiet, but I’m your nurse. I’m going to tell you what to do and you have to listen. You don’t know what you’re doing, you have to listen to me if you want to get this baby out.” -L&D Nurse to patient who asked if the people in the room could be quiet.

Because, you know, babies don’t come out unless there are nurses there to give directions. They’ll stay in that uterus forever otherwise.

and i’m the kind of laboring mom who waves my hands at people and says “shhhhhhhh” so they’ll be quiet during a contraction.
i think i would have said “excuse you??? be quiet or get out!”
