“…If You Were Educated Enough, You Would Have Had An Epidural.”
“See, if you were educated enough, you would have had an epidural.” -OB to mother who just gave birth without pain meds, after she requested medication during the suturing of her tear.
Wow, the misogyny from some of these quotes is both astounding and infuriating… and yet somehow also unsurprising. :-/

Yes, and the sad part is that many of these misogynist OBs who think this way are women…

Heh. “And if you weren’t a jerk you’d just shut up and give me shot of lidocaine like everyone else does without a lecture. Kthx.”

I had to have about 6 stiches (truly don’t remember) after my first child’s home birth. The nurse midwife (who was there mostly for insurance purposes and wasn’t the primary midwife) did them because the primary midwife went to the hospital with my son (bad start but unrelated to where we birthed). She was unfamiliar with my tolerace to analgesiacs and only gave me an average dose of lidocaine for the stitches. I was feeling everything after the 4th stitch, but was so anxious to get to the hospital I didn’t want to tell her and wait for the lidocaine to be readministered/kick in. Owie.

Hello? Uhmmmmm, that is cruel when someone does ask for pain relief not to give it. When the baby is inside, the risks to both mom and baby need to be considered. Birth is painful and natural both, but sutures are not a natural part of the pain…and it’s different than a contraction that comes on in a wave rather than a poke. Geesh.
