Most moms I have talked to who’ve had unmedicated, vaginal births laugh at the prospect of someone instructing them when, how and how long to push. If you don’t have pitocin and epidurals confusing you, you don’t need instruction! Your body does what it needs to do.

This was mine, first time mom, we had been at the hospital for an hour and dilated from a 4 to a 10 in 10 minutes. She was getting mad at me for groaning towards the last half of the 5 seconds. after she yelled at me to push her way I pushed a second time and the head started crowning. She made me stop pushing for 2-3 contractions while I waited for the OB. I delivered a 5lb baby boy 1-2 pushes later, and tore because they were in such a hurry to get him out. The last two births were at home where I could push however I wanted. 7lb 4oz baby and a 8lb 11oz baby and not a single tear.
