“Have Cereal With Orange Juice Instead Of Milk.”
“Have cereal with orange juice instead of milk.” -OB suggested to mother, in an attempt to suggest low calorie breakfast options, as she told him she was allergic to milk and could not have cereal with milk for breakfast.
Uhmmm…what about soy/rice or other milk substitutes? I like silk milk with vanilla. I’m sure there’s something else. Whole wheat bread with peanut butter and a drink of some sort? Scrambled eggs and a piece of fruit? There are other alternatives…

I have 2 kids who were milk allergic (seem to have outgrown it now) and while sometimes they asked for cereal with juice, there are tastier non-dairy beverage and breakfast options.
My guys like
Muffins, Oatmeal, Whole Grain toast, Eggs (women need lots of protein during pregnancy, and the cholesterol is actually good as well, the baby needs cholesterol for the development of the nervous system), Whole grain waffles or pancakes with fresh fruit.
I honestly think if more OBs got training in proper prenatal nutrition, and stressed that with their patients as much as they focus on making sure everyone has AFP screenings, dozens of ultrasound scans, etc. that pregnancy outcomes might improve.
Nutrition was never a major topic of discussion with OBs I saw. Weight was a big focus, but not nutrition. I learned about that from books and that blasted internet again.
It seems the good midwives typically spend more time on nutrition, and ask about it at each monthly visit, more so than the average OB anyhow.

I did that for years growing up, because my mom didn’t like milk and was afraid she wouldn’t like soymilk either.
I now cannot survive on just cereal and juice! I make nut milk for our once-a-week cold-cereal breakfast! It is so nourishing and sustaining!
But let’s see… if you’re thinking low calorie, soymilk is that, and tasty too. And less sugar than OJ! It would be better to eat the orange with the fiber!

You know I have done that. Especially good with Grape-Nuts but does not work with fakey stuff. It is odd that someone (in the medical proffession) would suggest that. Has he/she not heard of almond/rice/hemp milks or EGGS!!!!!
