Offering a woman support during labor is important and will not stall labor, if anything it will speed it up. Poking and proding a woman in labor and causing her stress WILL slow the labor process.

DONA and other places would disagree, too. Research has shown that women who are supported in labor have shorter labors. Feelings of comfort and safety allow the best hormonal orchestration of labor, hence making contractions and labor itself more productive, efficient, and faster!

Let me tell you, my labor didn’t get stuck because I was being pampered. (I was stuck in transition. Good luck pampering a woman in transition.)
