“Close Your Legs And Don’t Push.”
“Close your legs and don’t push!” -Nurses to mother with a strong urge to push, as they raced her to a L&D room from the Antepartum unit
They did that to my mom when she was having me, held her legs together and told her not to push. She was BENT – just mad as hell. I’m fine, but I can’t imagine. And I’ve heard of much worse outcomes. I don’t even understand why they wouldn’t just let the baby come.

This happened to my friend with her first baby two years ago–the L&D nurse told her to go ahead and start pushing because the doctor would be there soon. First push and the baby was almost out, so the L&D nurse made her husband pin her knees together and she had to wait minutes until the doctor got there…next push and the baby was out.
Hell no I would have ever, ever let anyone hold my legs together!

This crap was done to me and it still ticks me off. I had been in labor for a few hours, and the doctor didn’t think it would be so fast. The nurses held my legs closed for 23 minutes! I was in so much pain. I can honestly remember that the pain of being forced to NOT push was worse than the whole labor and delivery aspect.
The doctor finally showed up as one of the L&D nurses was getting ready to deliver my daughter.

The nurses told that to my mom when she was giving birth to me too. They told her to ‘hold on’ until the doc arrived. She told them she was going to push and if the doctor wanted to be there to catch the baby he better hurry. That’s what ended happening, the doctor held my head with one hand while the nurses tried put his gown on through the other hand.

After now having experienced the AMAZINGLY STRONG urge to push – this is laughable. I hear this time and time again,”Don’t push!” That’s like telling someone,”Don’t breathe!”
