What a terrible thing to say. Women can feel very self conscious about their bodies, even the parts usually unseen.

I had a “sunburst” tear to my labia and hematoma with my second after being encouraged to push with my body curled up and legs pulled back even before I felt the urge. My baby came flying out, and it was terrible. Took forever to stitch me back up, and the doc kept commenting on all the blood and that she should have cut me. I actually think they should have let my husband calm me down (pushed him back and said “let her push with her body). I had one stitch with my first birth, but an unknown count with the second. I still have a hole (about 2cm diameter) and scars in my labia and inside from that birth. 6 weeks later the OB put silver nitrate on the scars because they still hadn’t healed. All because of forced and loudly counted pushing…with a balled up mom grabbing her knees.

That sounds about right coming from an establishment that now performs so many unnecessary cesareans. They don’t think of birthing women as people, they think of them as meat.
