Another one for the “At least they were honest” category. I would actually prefer this response to the situation where they say “Oh yes, make a birth plan, we encourage that” and then just toss it in the trash as soon as you are out of sight.

I *get* that things aren’t set in stone for birth (emergencies happen, no one denies that), but why be so dead set against simply talking about what the parents want? And if what they are asking for isn’t dangerous or unreasonable, why not accommodate their preferences?

If my OB with my 1st had said that from the get-go, I’d have had a much easier decision to make… lol. Instead I found out the hard way.

I’d have said, “Really? Huh. See ya!” And had a home birth.

I wouldn’t even say anything to the doctor at that point. I’d just get up and walk away, never to return.

And THAT is when you find yourself a new doctor or midwife.
