“You Need To Shower Three Times A Day…”

“You need to shower three times a day to avoid infection, and also shower every time you poop… you should shower every time you poop anyway for good hygiene as a woman.”-CNM to mother postpartum.

Because with all free time you’ll have as a mother to newborn, you’ll want to spend it all in the shower. You know, for good hygiene.

This midwife also told me that breastfeeding is supposed to hurt and that anyone who says otherwise is wrong, and expected me to be able to do a lot more than I was capable of doing right after getting out of he ICU with severe anemia and still somewhat erratic BP – standing for a full 60 seconds led to me getting a nosebleed and a killer hadache. She didn’t seem to understand that I was crying hysterically because I was overwhelmed emotionally rather than in physical pain, even though I told her…

NO!!! Breastfeeding is ***NOT*** supposed to hurt!!! ARGH!!!!!!! Take it from me, who never had any pain with breastfeeding (other than when my kids were teething, of course!).

This woman needs to read Breastfeeding with Comfort and Joy and learn a thing or two about actually *helping* women breastfeed painlessly (like all the dumb animals manage to do! — surely we smart humans can as well), rather than just pass on a bunch of CRAP that she calls “knowledge.” GRRRR….
