What do some caregivers NOT get about CONSENT? You don’t just strip a woman’s membranes or break her water “while you’re in there” without asking or even saying anything first! You don’t come in and just inject something unknown into an IV without asking. And when the baby is born, you don’t just walk in and pick the baby up to take back to the nursery without asking! Doctors and nurses always seem so shocked that I want to know every single thing they do BEFORE they do it, and I might even — gasp! — say NO!

My homebirth midwife referred to it as “stirring the pot” too, thats funny. I had asked for a membrane sweep, though, because I was a week after my due date and after discussing it with her, decided it was best. I went into labour that night.
Sorry your midwife did it without authorization.
