Well of course not.

A pacifier is a human nipple replacement, so clearly a human nipple can't be a human nipple replacement!

Oh, my midwife totally agrees with this OB...she asked me if I was "letting baby use [me] as a pacifier." I'm thinking, Of course I am! THAT'S MY JOB! (At least, if I want my milk to come in...)

My pediatrician said something similar to me while I was in the hospital with my newborn who liked to nurse constantly until my milk came in. I'm so glad I listened to my LC instead....I had an excellent milk supply!

As in, a pacifier can be hit on one edge and it flips over, and baby chases it. That's pretty much what my firstborn did with his pacifier at 6 months and didn't use it to suck.

Exactly. Pacifiers provide no nourishment, they provide no bonding between mom and baby, they do not help mom meet supply for milk the baby needs. Also, you cannot flip breasts around on the floor when learning to crawl.

The ONLY way this is an appropriate statement is if the very next words out of the OB's mouth were "Wait a minute, strike that...reverse it." (Think Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka)
