“It’s So Weird That You’re In Labor…”
“It’s SO weird that you’re in labor! I haven’t had a mom go into spontaneous labor in over a year!” -OB
Hrmm. . . I wonder why THAT is?

at least he was honest! Maybe he should have informed the woman prior to her birthing.

“That is just sad. That is why I asked my OB about her procedures. She is all about letting her moms do it old school.”
I asked the same of my OB and was told the same by her but two days before my due date, even after I had told her that my family tends toward longer gestational periods and babies are just late, she told me we were booking me in for an induction for exactly a week after my due date. I told her that no WE were not booking an induction on ANY day. Her response was to say “So we are booking a c-section then?” I told her that no, we were not. We were letting this baby come out when ready and not a moment before and if it made her feel better she could monitor the baby but unless my baby was in distress there were to be NO interventions. She came out all by herself at 40wks 6 days.

My OB is AGAINST inductions but we did one with my second because she didn’t want her getting to big. She was a week early and still over 8 lbs, which is where the doc wanted her to be.

This was my submission–here’s my OB’s sentence right after she said the “so weird!” part: “Well, I have a scheduled c-section to attend to now, so I’ll be back to check on you when that’s all done.”
A what? You have a what? I’m sorry–I’m about to push a baby out here and you can’t get your scheduled c-section mom to chill out for an hour? Especially given the number of times I’d had my prenatal appointments postponed for hours because my doc was delivering or doing a c-section instead.
I had walked into the hospital at a 6 and was moving fast. Sure my doctor came back–thirty minutes after I’d had my baby. Another doctor from her practice deigned to show up after my L&D nurse (who was a total saint!) called for the second time and screamed at them on the phone to hurry their asses up! I loved my L&D nurse!
And yes, I *had* asked my doctor about her C-section rate, about her induction rate…everything. She’d informed me at my 38 week appointment that at the following appointment we could “discuss induction options”…I tried to keep from laughing in her face. Luckily I had my daughter at 39w3d, the morning before our “induction discussion” and I didn’t have to even argue with her about it.
Just found out I’m pregnant with #2 today: we’re planning a homebirth.
