That’s funny. I got told the exact same lie by a nurse. She actually said they were no different. a few hours of sheer agony later and my unmedicated birth plans were a distant memory.

Several NON-pitocin labors later I am here to tell you, pit contractions are “just like” natural labor contractions in the same way a fire truck is “just like” a little red wagon. I never “needed” any medication during a non-pitocin labor, personally. Maybe having the pitocin nightmare as a comparison helped. Ha!

This was mine! Same OB told me epidurals can’t affect the baby, because they don’t cross the placenta…they way I could be sure that was true was because if epidurals got into your bloodstream, you’d die.

Umm… I was 40 & 6/7 when I was induced. If I knew what the pit was going to do, I never would have let them start it. I was contracting on my own and they would have kept me if I had shown up at L&D anyway.

I think that it does take a ‘bad’ birth to realize just how forceful you have to be with doctors and nurses AND my midwife to get what you want from your own birthing experience.
